Justice NV Ramana will be the next Chief Justice of India, the current President of India
Ramnath Kovind has approved his appointment. Justice Ramuna’s name was recommended,
after which the Central Government recommended his name to the President, Justice Kamna
would be the Chief Justice of India 48.

Tenure of Chief Justice –

Justice Ramana’s tenure will last till August 26, 2022. He will be the first judge of Andhra
Pradesh to become the Chief Justice of India, the second Telugu-speaking speaker after
Subhash Rao.

Who is Justice Ramana ?

Justice Verma was born on 27 August 1957. He belongs to a very simple family, he was born
into a peasant family in Poonavaram village in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. On 10
February 1983, he enrolled as a lawyer, and started his practice as a lawyer in the Andhra
Pradesh High Court. He was appointed as judge of Andhra Pradesh High court on 27 June 2000.
On 2 September 2013, he became the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court and on 17 February
2014, a Judge in the Supreme Court.

Who becomes the Chief Justice of India?

As per the rules, the most senior judge is appointed to the post of Principal Judge. The Law
Minister demands the name of his successor from the current CJI at the right time. After
receiving the recommendation letter from the CJI, the Minister puts it in front of the Prime
Minister who advises the President on the appointment.
